Pioneer Place is the latest attraction to the Burnley Shopping Experience.

Located in Curzon Street, close to Marks & Spencer, Next and Primark the site boasts a new 7 theatre cinema and a range of 5 restaurants.

REEL Cinemas operate the cinema and the food restaurants comprise Icaro Lounge, Nandos, Starbucks, Heavenly Desserts and ?

This major development will bring new visitors to the town centre during day and evening time, retain footfall, deliver new jobs and support the growth of UCLAN (University of Central Lancashire) campus. The development will diversify the town centre from a primarily retail offer and consolidate its leisure and evening economy offer.

The cinema is forecast to have over 300,000 visits per year.

This and the five restaurants will generate an extra £2.39 million spend in shops in that locality.

REEL Cinemas have agreed to an initial 15 year period of operating as a cinema on the site.

The scheme will generate some 111 Full Time Equivalent jobs and an extra £200k additional business rates per year of which Burnley will get 40% (£80k)

Projected figures, on which the councillors approved the project, also show additional rental income from the restaurants of some £226k a year (after up to 3yrs rent free periods which were agreed as an incentive to lease the buildings)

The overall cost of the project was some £22.5m which was financed by £3.64 million from Lancashire Enterprise Partnership, £3 million from Lancashire County Council and the remainder from Burnley Council largely in the form of a 50 year loan for £15.18 million.

With interest payments on the loan forecast at £
